This cartoon was drawn to help announce the Empire State Scholastic Press Conference being held in New York at the Waldorf-Astroria.

It was a big moment for all of us working on the school paper.

Editors and faculty from all over the state were gathered at the Waldorf and also at Columbia University.

Our paper had won so many awards over the years that we all were playing a big part in the event.

I had been invited to lecture on drawing High School Life at Columbia. They enlarged a number of my cartoons and had them them behind me as I spoke. The room was jammed and my talk was well received. Pretty exciting stuff for a 17-year old kid. It's become a joke in this family, "Did I ever tell you about the time I lectured at Columbia?" Answer, "Yes! Several times."

CBS Newsman Douglas Edwards spoke to all of us in a theater at Columbia and we did get that free dinner at he Waldorf.

While sitting in the lobby at the Waldorf a gentleman came up to me and asked if I was a school editor and when I assured him I was he gave me an invitation to view the premiere of M-G-M's Julius Caesar starring Marlon Brando and every other MGM male star. The viewing was in the MGM offices, and I took my drama teacher from school. He was very impressed!
